Israeli Journalist?s YouTube Mockery of Qadaffi Rant Goes Viral in Libya

A satirical YouTube clip mocking Muammar Qaddafi’s megalomania, created by an Israeli living in Tel Aviv, is going viral in Libya and across the Middle East. The short's creator, Noy Alooshe, a 31-year-old journalist and Internet buff, said he saw Qaddafi’s televised speech last Tuesday in which the Libyan leader vowed to hunt down protesters “inch by inch, house by house, home by home, alleyway by alleyway,” and immediately identified it as a “classic hit.” Alooshe said the scene had all the trappings of an Internet sensation: "He was dressed strangely, and he raised his arms like at a trance party." From the Times:

Alooshe spent a few hours using Auto-Tune to set the speech to the music of “Hey Baby,” a 2010 electro hip-hop song by American rapper Pitbull, featuring another artist, T-Pain. He titled it “Zenga-Zenga,” echoing Col. Qaddafi’s repetition of the word zanqa, Arabic for alleyway. In the early hours of Wednesday morning Mr. Alooshe had uploaded the remix to YouTube, and began sending the link to the pages of young Arab revolutionaries. By Sunday, the original clip had more than 400,000 hits and had gone viral.

Alooshe has since received letters from Libyans saying that if the Qaddafi regime falls, the liberated Libyans would dance to Zenga-Zenga. Versions of the video without the scantily clad dancers have been created so that protesters can show it to their parents. So here it is, the YouTube clip of Qadaffi dancing to Pitbull that just might succeed in doing what years and years of legislation have failed to do: bring about peace in the region.

Resetting your phone

If you ever need to wipe your device or reset the data on your phone, Palm has provided a number of different methods for you, even with different options on what gets deleted. Most of these options can be performed right on your device, although you may need to attach your device to a computer if you want to perform a complete wipe of the device with a webOSDoctor. Before you perform any of these actions, make sure you have backed up any information that you need, including copying data from the USB drive to a computer, using the WebOS Internals' Save/Restore homebrew app to back up application data, and ensuring that you have used the webOS Backup app to save your Palm Profile-related data. Continue reading after the break to learn your various reset options

 

On device, you have 4 levels of device reset options. To access these options, open up the Device Info app (), scroll down to the bottom and then tap the "Reset Options" button. In addition to simply restarting your device or turning it off, you will see 4 red buttons that allow you to perform the following actions:

• Erase Apps & Data - Just as this states, this will remove all the apps and their associated data from the phone, along with any of your Palm Profile-related data like Contacts and Calendar entries. After this reset is complete, you will need to log back into your Palm Profile and reactivate your phone, so make sure you have a network connection.
• Erase USB Drive - This will erase all the data on your USB drive (photos, music, documents, etc) but will not affect your apps and data. In addition, it does not require you to log back in to your Palm Profile once complete
• Full Erase - Essentially, this is a combination of "Erase Apps & Data" and "Erase USB Drive", and will, of course, require you to log back in to your Palm Profile once complete
• Secure Full Erase - Like the Full Erase, this will wipe your device of all application and USB data. However, it will then perform some additional actions to ensure that your data has been wiped clean of the device to prevent anyone from recovering any data you had on there. This process can take much longer to complete, but is a good idea if you are giving your device to another person or sending it in

If you are unable to access your phone and what to perform a reset, or want to wipe the device back to the stock operating system you can also perform a webOS Doctor on the device. Simply to go http://www.palm.com/rom and follow the on-screen directions. Note that depending on the version of webOS that you are installing, it may or may not wipe the USB drive. So, you may want to consider doing a "Full Erase" in combination with a webOS Doctor if you truly want to wipe the device

Finally, you can Remote Wipe the device, providing that the phone is still on your account and is connected to a network connection. See details here on our prior tip on remote wipe.

Notes:

• Be aware that if you are performing an "Erase Apps & Data", "Full Erase", or "Secure Full Erase", you should remove any patches or modifications you have made to the device prior to performing these actions. These actions will not remove the enhancements made by those patches, but Preware and webOS Quick Install will not recognize that those patches are installed. You will need to perform a webOS Doctor or can try to use Jason Robitaille's webOS Repair Utility to try to fix these issues.
• If you are going to need to log back into your Palm Profile after a reset, make sure that you know your email address and password that you have associated to your profile. Refer to this prior tip if you do not know the email address you used.

ASP.NET MVC 3 Release Candidate 2

Almost exactly one month ago, we released the Release Candidate for ASP.NET MVC 3. And today we learn why we use the term ?Candidate?.

As Scott writes, Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Beta was released just this week and as we were testing it we found a few incompatibilities with it and the ASP.NET MVC 3 RC that we had just released.

That?s when we, in the parlance of the military, scrambled the jets to get another release candidate prepared.

You can install it directly using the Web Platform Installer (Web PI) download the installer yourself from from here.

Be sure to read the release notes for known issues and breaking changes in this release. I?m not saying I put an Easter egg in there or not, but you?ll have to read all the notes to find out.

In particular, there are two issues I want to call out.

Breaking Change Alert!

The first is a breaking change. Remember way back when I wrote about Dynamic Methods in ViewData? Near the end of that post I wrote an Addendum about the property name mismatch between ViewModel and View.

Well we finally resolved that mismatch. The new property name, both in the controller and in the view is ViewBag. This may break many of your existing ASP.NET MVC 3 pre-release applications.

NuGet Upgrade Alert

The other issue I want to call out is that if you already have NuGet installed, running the ASP.NET MVC 3 RC 2 installer will not upgrade it. Instead, you need to go to the Visual Studio Extension Manager dialog (via the Tools | Extensions menu option) and click on the Updates tab. You should see NuGet listed there (click on image for larger image):

The NuGet.exe command line tool for creating packages is available on CodePlex.

Overall, this release consists mostly of bug fixes along with some fit and finish work for ASP.NET MVC 3. We?ve updated the version of jQuery and jQuery Validation that we include in the project templates and now also include jQuery UI, a library that builds on top of jQuery to provide animation, advanced effects, as well as themeable widgets.

In terms of NuGet, this release contains a significant amount of work. I?ll try and follow up soon with more details on the NuGet release along with release notes.
